Walking into a recording studio for the first time can feel overwhelming — but it doesn't have to be. At Ekam Studios, we've worked with hundreds of first-timers and here's what separates a great session from a wasted one.
1. Know your lyrics cold. Don't come to the studio to memorise your song. Come ready to perform it. Spend at least 3 days running your track out loud — not in your head — before your session. Your voice needs to know the words without thinking.
2. Warm up your voice for 15 minutes before arriving. Hum, do scales, drink warm water. Cold vocals in a cold room sound thin. Avoid cold drinks, milk, and spicy food for 2 hours before your session.
3. Bring references. Pull up 2-3 songs on YouTube or Spotify that have the sound or energy you want. This saves 20-30 minutes of explaining and helps our engineer dial in your mix faster.
4. Don't bring too many people. One hype person is fine. Five friends distract you, distract the engineer, and cost you session time. Focus over fun — that's the rule.
5. Book at least 2 hours for one song. At ₹800/hr, two hours is ₹1,600. That's enough to record, punch-in fixes, and do a rough mix review. Rushing a song you've worked on for weeks makes no sense.
